Motor Dance,
a
modern dance cooperative directed by Rashana Smith, is a vehicle for
bringing diverse dance works to East Texas through collaboration
with professional artists from diverse regions and backgrounds.
Motor Dance is committed to advancing the awareness of the
performing arts in East Texas by integrating dance students with
professional dancers in innovative performances that will reach
audiences who have varying degrees of dance appreciation. Ms.
Smith originally formed Motor Dance in 1997 in Seattle with fellow
choreographer Krisen Day. Smith and Day have continued to
produce work despite relocating to different areas of the
United States. Motor Dance members have performed extensively
throughout the United States most notably in Texas, Washington,
Wyoming, Massachusetts, Oregon and New York.
